In a city that has accumulated well over 2,000 years of history, there are an overwhelming number of attractions and establishments of interest to the first time visitor. Popular attractions within the city include St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican museums, the Pantheon, Palazo Massimo alle Terme, Museo e Galleria Borghese and Galleria Doria Pamphilj, the Forum and Colosseum. When visiting any sites within the Vatican complex be sure to have your knees and shoulders covered or you will not be admitted.

Accommodations within the city are plentiful and offer a diverse selection of options ranging from very inexpensive student hostels to five star hotels catering to power players and celebrities. Be sure to research the location of your lodgings and it's access to transportation as there are metro stops at many of the main attractions.

Shopping is a favorite Roman pastime and tourists will enjoy the quality items available. Main shopping streets are Via del Corso, Via dei Condotti and Via Nazionale. Via Cesare Balbo is a city center market of interest. Nightlife and dining areas include the Campo dei Fiori, and San Lorenzo neighborhoods. The Testaccio neighborhood also offers many nightlife options.
