Venice

Located along the Adriatic sea in northeastern Italy, Venice, otherwise known as the floating city, is one of the most inspiring and romantic destinations in the world. The city itself is largely considered a work of art, and prized for a cultural, musical, and artistic heritage that spans many centuries.

Renown for it beautiful waterways and iconic gondola's, travel through Venice remains largely unchanged. Water taxi's and Ferry's have replaced gondola's, but getting around the city is done mostly on foot or by water. Gondola rides are available to tourists looking to experience a piece of history, but be prepared to pay for it. Forty minute to sixty minute rides can run anywhere from $100.00 to to $205.00 (U.S.) depending on the service and whom you book the tour through. Some Venice hotels are reputed to add enormous surcharges, so be sure to do your homework.

The architecture and cityscapes throughout Venice are otherworldly and anyone exploring the city will not be disappointed. Some of the more famous sights include St Mark's Basilica, and the Grand Canal. Sometimes called the living room of Venice or the drawing room of Europe, the Piazza San Marco is the most beloved square in the city and a must see for visitors. Walking and water bus tours are available for those who would like to take in the many architectural masterpieces and learn of their centuries long history.

The Venetians prefer a more subdued nightlife scene. Vacationers will find many options for concert halls, opera houses, and venues showcasing Venice's world class musical culture. Those looking for a wild party scene may find Venice lacking. The Piazza San Marco will provide visitors with a modest assortment of bars and coffee houses but the neighborhoods of Dorsoduro and Campo Santa Margherita may be the best bet.
